Energy independence is best achieved at the property. Be it a home, or a business, or a commercial facility such as a school or a data center.
Yes, grid reliability will continue to be an issue and yes, utility rates will likely continue to increase.
However, the strategy of moving towards an all electric property with the energy generated from renewable sources to migrate towards self-reliance, and ultimately energy independence, works everywhere.
